Dress Up Your Mail

Confession: Tate is often shoeless. He has two very cute pairs, but he doesn’t often wear them. My husband thinks this is why he’s not walking yet, and admittedly he slips around on our hardwood floors in his stocking feet. Even when we leave the house, I rarely put on his shoes. He was barefoot all last summer. My friend jokes about Tate’s “sans shoes” fashion statement.

Maybe if I had a girl it would be different- my niece has bazillions of pairs of shoes, and always has just the right pair for every outfit. Okay, that may also be a reflection of her stylish momma. But I think little girls do lend themselves a bit more to accessorization.

It could be that I’m getting my “girl fix” in other ways. Confession #2: I love to dress up my envelopes. Both Tate’s birth announcements and our Christmas cards had return address labels and envelope seals that matched the enclosure. The addresses are written with a matching pen for the finishing touch.

I’ll admit to being pretty sad that the United States Postal Service chose a primary-color nutcracker design for this year’s holiday stamps, which completely threw off my aqua and lime green palette. Don’t even get me started on the pink monstrosities I had to use on my green and black wedding invitations…

Anyone else out there love a pretty envelope? There are so few occasions for which real mail is sent nowadays, it seems a shame not to make them all they can be. Check out these adorable options for envelope seals and return address labels:

There are lots more designs online to match your birth announcements, shower invitations, holiday cards and thank you notes. Have fun playing dress-up!

We used these too for our Christmas cards! I love them. We were also able to pick the font and change some of the colors on the style I chose.
About the shoes, if you wait a little longer it will be warm enough to go without shoes again. Save your money for when he can wear a pair of shoes more than once!

Oh my! Two things I love – baby shoes and stationery. I thought I was being a bit of a “bridezilla” when I could barely get over having to use the purple (purple was NOT part of the color scheme!) overweight stamps … because our wedding invites were a tenth of an ounce too heavy for the Tiffany stamps last spring. It’s so nice to know that other people cherish their envelopes too. :)

I rarely had shoes on my daughter, so I think it is a Mommy thing more than the child’s gender : ) Maya has been walking for 8 months, initially barefoot, in socks, and now that it is so cold we are in slippers a lot… Well… we do have a pair of silver shoes with pink laces, they are always the hit at every party!

I loved my MagnetStreet seals & labels for my Christmas magnets… thinking of getting some non-holiday ones for birthday party invites : )

At least your little guy wears his socks. Mine likes to go barefoot! He isn’t walking yet either. His sister started walking at the end of her 10th month. Get those socks with the grippers on the bottom and he won’t slip around as much. You’ll have to buy those custom USPS stamps if you want matching. :)

Oops, forgot I was going to tell you our favorite love themed board book is Snuggle Puppy. All of Karen Katz’s books are great, too. Peek-a-boo books are always a fav.

Kara – great to find your site! Thanks for stopping by chicks; so happy you enjoy the recipes!

Re: no shoes; I’m totally a no sock kind of gal – I cannot wait until it’s no socks and flip flop season! Tate (who is a doll btw) has his whole life to wear shoes… ;)

You make me laugh! These are awesome. I am so in love with them. I contemplated the other day that I will go to the dollar store to buy $1 gift bags and tissue, but happily spend $5 for a Papyrus card for the same gift because they are so pretty. I love cards.

Also, shoeless is better for kids who are learning to walk. I can’t find the study right now, but it is truly medically recommended. They walk and learn to walk better shoeless. So you are being a great momma and doing Tate a favor!

I’m with you on the no shoes thing. My son’s only 8 months old, but we don’t own any shoes yet, and I don’t really plan on buying them any time soon. I don’t really see the point, until they’re walking around in public, or maybe if it’s really cold outside. I guess they look cute, but all kids do is pull them off and chew on them anyway (ew!) I’ve also heard that shoeless is better for kids who are just learning to walk.
