Birth Announcements Without Photo

Most birth announcements feature a photo of the newborn baby, right? But there could be many reasons to want an announcement without a photo, such as:

  • You’ve won a million free prints from Snapfish/Shutterfly/Kodak and just need the announcement to show the baby’s name, stats, etc.
  • You’re a famous musician/actor/politician and want to protect your child’s privacy while still sharing the news of his/her birth
  • Your kid just isn’t that cute (Okay, that would be the lie if we were playing Two Truths and a Lie. Of course your kid is cute!)

Whatever your reason might be for wanting a birth announcement without a photo, rest assured that MagnetStreet Baby has something for you! Here’s a sampling of the designs, featuring beautiful graphics and fonts to make your big announcement in style.

monogram-birth-announcement-rw-10650I love our long and narrow birth announcements, reminiscent of a strip of photo booth photos. They have such a unique look. There’s just the right amount of room for the baby stats and a photo or two of your precious newborn. (Speaking of stats, why is it so important that we all know the baby’s height and weight?! Hmm…)

The even better news about this product is that the top 5 magnet designs are on sale now. Order by June 1 to receive a 20% discount on these designs.

Although the sale is limited to these five, remember that you can change the colors and fonts to suit your personal style. Click here for complete details on the sale.

Pregnancy Art

Before I became pregnant, I thought I’d be one of those people who took profile pictures of their pregnant stomach every week, or at least every month, to see the progression. When I was pregnant, though, I never got around to it. I don’t have any pictures showing my bare pregnant belly, actually. The morning I went into labor it occurred to me that I should take one, but then, well, labor got in the way!

Something else that I think is really cool is having a professional photo shoot during your pregnancy. Several of my friends have done this, and the photos are beautiful!

I’m discovering though, that photography is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of commemorating and celebrating your pregnancy.

I found some very artistic pregnancy body casts from Belly of Love in Australia (pictures below). Several US companies also offer do-it-yourself kits. At Original Belly Works, after you’ve created the mold of your belly, you can paint or decorate it yourself, or ship it to their artists for the finishing touches.

If you have older kids, try a little art project to get them excited about the upcoming birth: Tutu’s Bliss let her daughter finger-paint on mommy’s pregnant belly! Visit her site to see the pictures – wouldn’t that be a cute big brother/big sister shot to put into a baby book?!

Or maybe you want something that requires less clean-up? Try a temporary tummy tattoo! The options in the packet from Proud Body are all pregnancy-themed, from the Chinese character for mother to “One Hot Mama” surrounded by flames. For me, it would be worth $6.50 to look down and giggle at my stomach when pulling up my elastic-waisted maternity pants in the morning!

Are you doing anything artistic or creative during your pregnancy? Share your ideas with us!

Announcing a Big Sister

One of my friends and former co-workers at MagnetStreet, Melinda, has just announced that she is pregnant with her second child. That means her daugher will be a big sister! Since this is uncharted territory for me, Melinda was kind enough to answer a few questions:

How did you tell your daughter that you are pregnant?
We actually told her the day after we found out. We told her that there was a baby in my belly and that she was going to be a big sister.

What was her reaction?
She was so excited! She loves to help out with any baby she sees, especially her baby cousin.

Has she said any cute things about the baby?
Because I have not been feeling the best, she asks me all the time if my tummy hurts. She asks if I need to eat or need some water. If I say no thank you, she “tickles” my arm to comfort me (this is what I do to her when she is hurt or tired). She also kisses my belly thinking that this will help me feel better. She is extremely sensitive and wants me to feel better. I think the funniest thing is when she says that there is a baby in her belly. She lifts up her shirt and sticks out her belly, then proceeds to say that she wants the baby to come out. We are not going to address that topic yet!

What are you most excited about for her as a big sister?
She is a wonderful little helper. She will be right there with me and the baby the entire time. She has a nurturing heart and a love for babies that I want to encourage in our household as we grow our family. I am also glad that she’ll be almost 3 when the baby comes and old enough for me to reason with. She’ll be more independent at 3 also.

What are you most nervous about?
Because she so loves to help me, it may get overwhelming at times. I know that it will take patience on my part to try and establish what she can help me with, and what things are just for mommy and baby.

What did you learn with baby #1 that you’ll apply to baby #2?
The thing that I learned from having our daughter was to just let go!! Life does not have to be that complicated! As long as everyone eats, sleeps and gets a bath once in a while, we will be doing just fine! I feel like we will be more relaxed this time around because we have been through it once before. We will kind of know what to expect, although I know that every baby is different and it could all get thrown up in the air, but at least I have a point of reference now!

Has this pregnancy been at all different from your first?
This pregnancy is a lot like the first pregnancy. I am sick, tired, and this time around I cannot just take care of myself (what a bummer)!!!

What is your favorite sibling birth announcement?
I like these sibling birth announcement designs for either a boy or girl. I’m not sure whether I’d choose magnets or linen paper. (Melinda’s husband is a photographer, so their announcement is sure to have some fabulous pictures of the new baby and the proud big sister!)

Thanks, Melinda! I know many of you readers have more than one child – any advice to offer to Melinda and her husband, before the baby arrives?

Valentine’s Day Birth Announcements

Last year, my husband and I brought our new baby home from the hospital on Valentine’s Day. A pretty good way to celebrate love, I’d say! Is your due date fast approaching, or do you know someone whose is? There are adorable new Valentine-themed birth announcements that you have to see. Here’s a sneak peek:

Even if your baby isn’t brand new, consider this: One of my good friends sent out valentines to family and friends last year, instead of Christmas cards. What a great idea! Everyone loves getting a valentine, and I’m sure it was easier for her to pull together a photo and letter in January/February than in the midst of all the other holiday activities of December. Dress the family in red, snap a great shot, and share the love!

Hanukkah Birth Announcements

Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, I made it out of clay…

I have only a few memories of kindergarten. One is the birthday cake made out of soap. Another is the dreidel song that we learned during Hanukkah. This birth announcement magnet gave me a little flashback to age 5, and now the song is stuck in my head. However, when I say it’s a memory, I mean that I only remembered that one line. Click here if you also need a lyrics refresher.

But while I was Googling “dreidel song”, look what else popped up – No Limit Texas Dreidel. I couldn’t resist a look and according to their website, it combines dreidel with No Limit Texas Hold’em poker! It uses the same Hebrew letters as the dreidel game, then adds betting, bluffing, and folding. I’m not Jewish but that sounds like enough fun for at least eight nights. A great gift idea!

Thanks for sticking with me- now we’ll go back to the original intent of this post…Hanukkah birth announcements! If you’re due soon, or are already celebrating a new birth, why not combine your holiday greetings with a beautiful photo birth announcement? There are several sizes and designs to choose from, on both magnets and linen cardstock. Don’t forget the matching return address labels and envelope seals!

Christmas Birth Announcements

The original Christmas birth was announced by a chorus of angels, as this beautiful stained glass window commemorates. While you may not have quite such grand resources at your disposal, you’re certainly eager to share the news of your little one’s birth during this special season.

Maybe you’re waiting out the last few weeks of your pregnancy…why not pre-select a design or two now, and you’ll just need to drop in a great photo and baby’s stats after his/her arrival. If you’ve already brought baby home, there’s still time to choose a holiday-themed announcement to share with your loved ones.

You may choose to save a little postage by enclosing the announcement along with your regular family Christmas card or letter. Otherwise, envelopes are included with all birth announcements, whether you select magnets or linen cardstock.

Here are two of my favorite new designs. View the complete gallery of holiday birth announcements online. Happy Announcing!!
