Mini Magnet Carrier Cards~ They’re Finally Here!

Categories Wedding Stationery

WE HEARD YOU! You said that you love our mini save the date magnets and  awesome size.  And, although they come with silver-foil envelopes for mailing, you let us know there was still something missing… You knew what that something was~ you just didn’t know what to call them.
A familiar conversation went something like this:
Bride: Hi, MSW. I love those mini magnets, but what about attachment cards to go with? Or…
magnet holders…
insert cards…
magnet attachment cards…
mailing cards…
mini carry cards…
carrier cards…
MSW: Thank you for the great suggestion! We’re working on it.
So, thanks to you, our new (already hot), carrier cards that frame, hold and coordinate with a miniature save the date are now available. We’re definitely excited about this much anticipated and needed wedding product! (btw, Linen carrier cards are sold separately from the B-mini magnets.)
If you’ve checked out our B’s before, you know that we offer HUNDREDS of miniature save the date designs and our goal is to design a mini magnet carrier card to complement each one. Right now, we have approximately 25-30 designs that can be immediately coordinated to a corresponding mini. That said, if you are in need of a coordinating carrier card for your magnet, don’t despair… our designers are working as fast as they can.
But we need your help…which ones shall we prioritize first to be designed?
Also, we think these carrier cards are cool, but what do you think?
Does the name fit?

Preserve Your Wedding Flowers for Years

Categories Resources

I have a wall basket in my house that I keep in a prominent place.  I look at it daily because it holds the dried flowers that I’ve kept from the most sentimental of occasions in my life.  It’s not exactly a stunning dried floral arrangement but it’s special and that’s what makes it important.  I just don’t know how to keep it clean.  When I see dust accumulating, I simply pull off a flower petal and expose the unblemished petal underneath.  I know there will come a day when there will be nothing left in my pretty metal basket but a bottom full of curled up leaves and naked stems standing at attention. Woe to that day.

What do you do?
Do you just pitch your spent flowers or do you dry or press them?  On occasion, I sometimes find fall leaves and other flowers tucked into a long-forgotten book on (hmm, I wonder which book has my little edelweiss flower from Switzerland?). I digress… These methods are inexpensive, easy, and are great ways to keep the sentiment alive.  Fortunately for all of us however, there are longer lasting ways to preserve your flowers while retaining their shape and color.

One technique you could try is using a silica gel. Actually a solid, silica gel is another method that won’t cost much if done at home and is a little closer to retaining the natural shape and color but typically only lasts a little longer than drying them.

Freeze Dried
Wedding flowers are as significant and sentimental as they come and if you want yours preserved, the best method is by having them professionally freeze dried. A bit complex, it takes a professional with equipment and lots of time and attention to detail and as a result, is more expensive. Removing the moisture from the flowers stops the decaying process and in the end, you have flowers that have largely retained their shape and color. Of course, there are limitations and you want to ask the right questions of your preservationist to understand the technology and art of it.
Make sure you let your florist/floral designer know that you want to preserve your wedding flowers as not every flower will preserve in the same manner. They can help you make the right choices.
Questions to ask your preservationist:
  1. What does the process of freeze drying entail? Pre-treat? Post-treat?
  2. How will your flowers look after preservation?
  3. Ask to see samples
  4. Ask for references
  5. How long will the entire process take?
  6. When and how soon are the fresh flowers to be delivered to the preservationist?
  7. Are there package discounts for additional flowers and framing?
  8. How do you take care of the flowers after preservation if unframed or uncased?
  9. Can you customize the look, if you want to?
  10. If needed, which flowers will they substitute?
To find a good preservationist~ go with recommendations from family and friends first. Once you have found the right preservationist, you will want to reserve your time with them.

Right Body Type, Right Bridesmaid Dress

Categories Fashion

The two bridesmaids for my wedding could not have been more opposite in their body types.  Cassie is shorter and bustier while Estelle is tall and thin, almost willowy.  (names have been changed to protect the shy). I think they’re fabulously gorgeous women, but they didn’t feel gorgeous in the dresses I had chosen for them!  Why? I hadn’t taken into consideration their individual body types and as a result, they weren’t comfortable.  Eventually, we chose dresses that complemented both body types and they looked just great!
Trends in modern weddings encourage the bride to set her bridesmaids apart from each other through dress style, color, flowers, accessories, etc. There is also emphasis placed on the benefits of choosing dresses that your bridesmaids can wear again and again.  I like that, it makes sense!
Do I have readers thinking…this is all well and good for brides who favor a contemporary look but, what about brides who favor a traditional look? Don’t despair; you have options, and plenty of them. With forethought, you can keep a cohesive look to your wedding. For instance, you could let each bridesmaid choose their most flattering dress style, while keeping them all in the same color.
Match the formality. Keep the formality of your wedding in mind as you peruse styles online and in dress shops, paying attention to hemlines, fabrics, etc. If your wedding is formal, the bridesmaids’ dresses should also be formal.  You can set the limitations i.e. if you feel strongly against backless dresses, just be upfront with your girls.
If you’re not sure what a scoop neckline is or have questions about your body type, visit the fit guide and dress style definitions from J.Crew. It will help with preliminary dress hunting, understanding the best style for your body type and ultimately, saving you time.
Cheers to style AND comfort!

A Day On, Not A Day Off…

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood for these ideologies; he is honored every year on the third Monday in January.   2008 marks the 40th year since his death.
Aside from this day off of work and school, are you aware that there is an additional component to Martin Luther King Day? The Holiday and Service Act was initiated by congress in 1994, as a national day of volunteer service. Honoring Dr. King’s teachings about community, this Act asks Americans to turn “community concerns into citizen action.”  From mentoring children, to fixing up schools to assisting seniors, everybody can help~ somewhere.  For more information on this facet of Martin Luther King Day, click www.mlkday.gov . There are also additional links for the Day of Service regarding project tips, opportunities to serve, and more.
Quick Segue to weddings…
Many couples are opting out of registering for gifts in lieu of receiving donations for a charity or a special organization.  Is there a charity, etc. that is near and dear to your heart?  Additionally, this is a great option for second marriages or for couples who already have “everything they need.”  Close family and friends will probably be aware of your charity choice, but you could also spread the news through your wedding website, shower invitations and word of mouth.

On this note I would like to say “THANK YOU” to the leadership of MagnetStreet who encourage and support a reading program at Rice Lake Elementary School in Lino Lakes, MN.  For the third year in a row, MagnetStreet employees leave work during the day to assist a child with their reading skills.
Involved since the beginning, Customer Care Rep. Lyn, commented,
“All my life I have volunteered at schools. When the opportunity at MagnetStreet came, I was thrilled. Children need one on one time and someone to help them build confidence. It is an awesome experience to see how they improve over the school year!”
C’mon everyone, let’s get involved!
Heidi
(At this time, the MagnetStreet- Rice Lake Elementary affiliation is an ongoing project unrelated to the Act of Service Day.)
