How to Choose Your Wedding Hairstyle

Categories Fashion

The grass is always greener when it comes to our hair isn’t it? Many of us have spent countless hours and money straightening, curling, coloring, geling, spraying, crimping, etc.

I happen to love, love, love, blunt haircuts but I have wavy hair. People are always asking me if I’ve just gotten a haircut.  It looks different every day, depending on the humidity, whether or not I dry it, if the water is soft, if I’ve just rolled out of bed because I’ve stayed up too late watching Lost episodes… Thankfully, my hairdresser is my friend and she will indulge me as I point up to a photo of some gorgeous woman’s head and say, “that one, please.” Most of the time, she gently explains why such style wouldn’t work for me.  (Sweet Home Alabama was on TV last night and reminded me of when I so wanted Reese Witherspoon’s hairstyle).
How to Choose the Right Hairstyle
Most of us probably have a pretty good idea about how our hair reacts to various climates or environments. But, there are other considerations to be aware of as well. For instance, your face shape; certain styles look better on particular face shapes than others.  Also keep in mind your hair texture and type. Do you have naturally curly, thick hair or just the opposite? Other factors to consider would be your neck length, body type, formality of your wedding dress, theme and of course, personal preferences and comfort.
It’s recommended that you see your hairstylist months in advance of the wedding day to choose your wedding day hairstyle. Before you meet with your hairstylist, be prepared to show a photo or swatch of your dress and describe the wedding environment(s) you will be in. Is your ceremony inside a conservatory or outside in a garden? Give her/him all the variables of the day. No worries!  As an experienced professional, your hairstylist should be able to guide you! Collect hairstyle photos from bridal magazines to help explain your wedding vision.
TheHairstyler.com is an interactive site that is not only fun but can help you in your quest for the perfect do.   They offer a FREE Demo for virtual hairstyles where you can upload your photo and play around with different cuts, colors and styles. What is great about this demo is that it also defines the chosen hairstyle. The definition quickly describes which face shapes it is good for and gives maintenance and styling tips.  Additionally, I clicked on their hair consultation, answered 20 questions about my complexion to my hair type, texture, current style, etc; it immediately gave me feedback on recommended hairstyles based on my profile.   Cool.
Next post, we’ll explore veil options with different hairstyles, so be sure to check back!
Let me know if you’ve checked out the hairstyler.com and what you thought of it.

Should Children be Invited to the Wedding?

Categories Inspiration

I love attending weddings where children of all ages are also invited. Sure, they can be mischievous, grumpy, messy…but, I love their little dressed up selves and how they stare wide-eyed at the beautiful bride. It’s fun to watch them play with their siblings and cousins, make new friends, and run all over the place.  They’re a lot of work; they’re a lot of fun!

I realize there are definitely circumstances where it would be unsafe to have younger children in attendance~ either at the wedding or at the reception. But, if weddings are a family gathering event, shouldn’t children be allowed to attend in most cases?
This very topic has caused many a division between family and friends when an invited guest has received a wedding invitation that excluded their children.  If the bride and groom decide that they want an adults only wedding and reception, it will be crystal clear by the invited names on the invitation envelope.  If that’s the case, it is imperative that we as guests, be respectful and comply with their wishes~ no matter how we feel about it.
What is your opinion? Generally speaking, should children be invited to the wedding or not?

Organize Your Wedding Planning

Categories Budget

One lesson from high school science that I’m reminded of daily~ is that everything is moving to a state of disorder… If I don’t take care of my plants, they will tell everyone who comes over that I’m a neglectful person, wilt and then die… Another example might be the state my laundry room would be in, if I didn’t clean up the lint, fold the clothes and change that hose thing on a regular basis…
Bear with me~ this post refers more to systematically staying organized than reviewing a science lesson. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how being organized is crucial to being productive. If I regularly check on my plants and keep my laundry room neat, there are fewer worries about unhealthy plants and gross hoses.
You have a wedding to plan.  No doubt emails are piling up, “to-do” lists are growing and at times, may seem overwhelming. I believe the key to not being weighed down by it all is to stay organized! Have you been to weddingwire.com yet? This FREE wedding planning site is very fun and seems easy to navigate. You can search, compare and rate local vendors. You can also chat with other brides, get answers to questions, acquire ideas, manage your budget and listen to wedding songs.  Additionally, there is a guest list manager and a wedding checklist.
Time and energy are precious. Don’t waste it on natural disorders.   Any scientists out there?
