Eco-Friendly Reception Centerpieces

Categories Budget

I’ve always wanted a tabletop herb garden so I planted one this weekend.  Here it is~ brimming with my fav’s: basil, rosemary and a sugar herb (I don’t know much about the sugar herb but supposedly, 2 or 3 leaves will sweeten coffee, tea, etc. I’ll have to get back to you on that one…)

It looks so pretty on my table and the aroma is fantastic that it got me to thinking~ what a fabulous idea this would make for the eco-minded bride and groom!

Consider placing tabletop herbs as centerpieces on your reception tables.  Of course you’ll want to use herbs that complement the meal(s) and your caterer can help with recommendations.  Find containers that reflect your wedding style or theme.  You could also paint containers like strawberry jars in your wedding colors too.  The sage green ceramic containers I used came from Smith & Hawken and included the tray.

Give your guests an experience and a creative way to interact during the meal.  Place small scissors at each setting so guests can clip their own sprigs and spice accordingly.  I imagine they will love the fun, original thought and even learn a little bit about herbs.

Budget Tips: Start early and grow your herbs from seeds (herbs are hardy, healthy and usually bug resistant).  Shop garage sales for eclectic containers.

Here’s a site that has the cutest, most fun, and clever kitchen stuff.  From a magnetic spice rack to the ever-masculine but insanely interesting, salt and pepper shakers masked as screws~ I love it!

Handling Wedding Day Conflict

Categories Inspiration

There were key family members at my wedding who never speak to each other and still other family, for whatever reason, weren’t speaking to each other either… Maybe I really dislike conflict but I was thinking, ”Hey everybody, this is my wedding~ BE HAPPY!

Nevertheless, I floated around trying to make sure everybody found their happy places.  (an exhausting endeavor…) I think someone ought to create a bumper sticker that reads CONFLICT HAPPENS!

It’s a fact of life.  Like it or not!

Did you, or are you experiencing conflict as you plan for your wedding? Is it worth trying to put everyone in their happy places?

Tell us about it in the comments section.

Save Money On Your Wedding Cake

Categories Reception

You’re cake people~ pies and cupcakes are not options.  A beautiful wedding cake that wows guests and commands attention is all you’re asking for.  But, how do you have your cake and save money too…?

Options my dears…In the same style as your wedding, you could rent a fake wedding cake or purchase a wedding cake that has one or two fake tiers.  The fake cake/tiers are typically made of styrofoam, decorated with real icing and according to your wedding style.   A portion of the fake cake is real so you can feed each other while your guests never know the difference.   The fake cake is then whisked away to where real sheet cakes await and from which your guests are served.  Another option: Have a small real cake with separate sheet cakes to feed your guests.  Tip: Keeping mindful of your budget, a simply designed fake cake is going to be less labor intensive than a time-intensive, elaborately designed fake cake.

not fake…

Don’t you just adore this sweetly decorated carrot cake from Maple Sugar ?  Definitely, check out this blog for great ideas and confectionary inspiration.

Hump-day smile, check out this real wedding cake that looks like the bride~ exactly. Truth is indeed, stranger than fiction!
