Canadian University Engagement Photos

Categories Photography + Real Weddings

Looking for ideas for your engagement session location? Well, look no further than this fun, quirky session from Creative Perspectives Photography. Candace and David met and fell in love at McGill University and decided that going back to where it all began would be the perfect locale for them.

We couldn’t agree more!

Candice and David are both teachers now and actually met in room 627 of the Education Pavilion. Can you imagine how much fun they had … being on campus and reliving so many of those special memories from the beginning of their relationship? All those … “this is where we first …” “remember when we …” and “here is where we had lunch every day” etc. etc. What a great idea for an engagement session and save the date concept! Enjoy.

Congrats Candace and David.

Where did it all begin for you? You could share your story on a multi-photo Save the Date that highlights your love in pictures. What a fun keepsake that would make!

Erin & Austin’s 10-Year Anniversary Sesh

Categories Photography + Real Weddings

We LOVE {to infinity} Erin and Austin’s 10 year anniversary session! Captured in their photos and in their words, it is obvious that they are still truly, madly, deeply in love with each other. Erin and Austin are also a military couple–with additional stresses that most of us can only imagine. That said, their humility is commendable and their love and respect for each other is a terrific testimony for a lasting marriage. Let’s all take note! Much thanks to Erin and Austin for sharing their story and to Amanda Hedgepeth Photography for sharing their story in pictures. Enjoy!

Meet Erin and Austin:

Daniel-79-2381060659-O

10 years and clearly, you’re still going strong! Care to share your secret?

{Erin} These past 10 years have not always been easy. We have been separated more than we have been together (Austin is in the Navy). When we got married, we promised to love each other through thick and thin, for better or for worse. Divorce has NEVER been an option, giving up has NEVER been an option either. We have always worked through every bad situation life has thrown at us–from being broke to being separated on and off for 4 years. We have never given up on us!

So fun and clever, where did your idea for having an anniversary session come from?

{Erin} We did not have a professional photographer at our wedding 10 years ago. We have one “nice” photo of the two of us on our wedding day. We really wanted to do something special for us to celebrate, so we thought an anniversary session would be the best way to celebrate our 10 years!

Can you tell us a little about why you chose Virginia Beach as the location?

{Erin} We chose VA Beach as the location because that is where we met. I asked Amanda if she would take a photo of us on the exact corner that we met each other on … 21st and Pacific is where it all started!

Austin, what is it that you still love most about Erin—after 10 years?

Well if I had to boil it down to one thing it would be her sense of humor and her ability to deal with mine. She is still able to laugh at my stupidity after this long and I appreciate that more than anything.

Erin, what is it that you still love most about Austin—after 10 years?

There are so many things that I love about Austin. He makes me happy. He can always make me laugh. He supports me on everything, he believes in me … he has never given up on me or lost faith in us. AND…he is an AMAZING daddy!!! There is nothing sexier than watching your hubby become an amazing father!! :) :) :) Hubba hubba!!

What is your favorite thing to do together?

{Erin} Our favorite thing to do together is to snuggle on the couch and watch movies–even though I always fall asleep because I don’t like the movies Austin chooses!! haha

How has life changed for you—since you got married?

{Erin} KIDS!!! We have 3 amazing kids!! We were not even married for a year when we got pregnant with our first and only son. Kids have been the biggest but most exciting change so far.

Erin and Austin, dressed in their wedding attire …
Please share your favorite memory from your wedding day?

{Austin} My beautiful wife walking up the step in her dress.

{Erin} Austin pretended that he lost my ring. He didn’t lose it–he just gave it to one of his groomsmen who was standing beside him. He is ALWAYS joking around! Even during our ceremony!

Is there anything you would “do over” if you were to get married today?

{Austin} Nope. There is nothing that we would change. I could not imagine our wedding any other way.

Looking back, what “words of wisdom” do you have for today’s brides and grooms?

{Erin} Plan YOUR MARRIAGE. Don’t try to plan the next best pinterest wedding. When we got married, social media was pretty much non-existent, so we didn’t have anything to compare our wedding to. I think that there is a lot of pressure on couples to plan this amazing, over the top event … like if your images don’t go viral, then you’ve failed at planning your wedding. It is sad to me… marriage is not just about the wedding, it is about your new life together. So my advice would be–not to get so caught up in the small details of one day, and to put more effort into planning your future together.

{Austin} This is a challenge and you can always work at it. It’s easy to get into a routine and be the same all the time. That is one thing we always want and try to work on. So always adapt to each other as you grow older.

By the way Erin, you STILL look fabulous in your wedding dress!! How do you do it?

OMG Thank you! I don’t really do anything special–I am kinda boring on that issue. My kids keep me on my toes 24 hours a day!!

*So fun* Thanks so much Erin and Austin–and Happy 10th Anniversary! And thanks again for sharing your testimony on how wonderful life can be–beyond the wedding day! Oh, and Austin–thank you for your service!!

Beach E-Session in Beautiful Belize

Categories Photography + Real Weddings

We have another gorgeous beach engagement session for you today–this one from Vinson Images takes place in Belize and we are very excited to share it. Analisa and Kyle are actually from New Mexico {getting married this August!} and traveled to Belize for their friend’s wedding. They decided that this dreamy destination was perfect for their engagement pictures too. Dramatic skies behind them only add to the natural beauty and storytelling of their photos. Fun fact: Belize is home to the only jaguar preserve in the world. Enjoy!

*Are you planning a beach or destination e-session? Tip: One of the most popular ways of “saving the date” right now is with a Save the Date Postcard. Standard size postcards are perfect for sharing larger photos but still keeping your postage costs at the 1 oz rate.

Categories Photography + Real Weddings

Claudette & Dave’s February 29, 2012 Hawaii Wedding {yes, a Leap Year}

Brought to us by Benn Brown of Blue Sky Photography, we’re thrilled to feature Claudette and Dave’s Hawaii wedding–a dream destination on the jaw-dropping Mauna Kea beach on the Big Island. Benn brilliantly captures not only the magical moments of Claudette and Dave’s big day, but also the flawless, colorful and raw beauty that is Hawaii itself. Surrounded by family, friends and a picturesque landscape, be inspired by Claudette and Dave’s laid-back yet elegant, sentimental wedding style–in paradise!

About the couple: Claudette, a wedding planner, is from the United States while Dave, a port operations manager, is from Australia. They reside in Australia and love every minute of it.

About the wedding

To make the wedding the most relaxed it could be, we decided on Hawaii for the big day. We went there for a holiday at Christmas with my family a few years before and just loved the laid back style and the amazing scenery that the Big Island has to offer. We’re really into traveling so we knew that a destination was our best option, and the added bonus that all of our friends and family can get together and have one massive holiday!

Highlights of the day:

  • The Anthem Battle.  Journey vs. Khe San (Australian’s version of Journey). We had Dave and I out there belting out the words to both and the confused look on the face of the opposing nation was priceless!
  • My dress.  I used the lace from my mom’s dress to make the top of mine and some of my father ashes (he passed away a few years ago) was tucked into my bouquet. We released him privately a few days after the ceremony.  The shell of my mother’s dress I had altered to fit me for the rehearsal.
  • Our friends.  Dave and I have been fortunate to be friends with many people and who are all important to our lives. It was beautiful to see girls I lived in France with getting along so well with my friends in Cairns.
  • Our families.  They have actually gotten so close, Dave’s mom is coming with us to Michigan for Christmas this year!!
  • Simplicity. We arranged a bus service from an area where everyone was staying (Waikoloa Beach Resort). It picked them up and took them home at the end of the night. We also rented an extra room and hired a babysitter so our guests could relax.

How did you and Dave meet?

I came to Australia after graduating college (University of Florida) and planned on staying for 4 months and returning back to the states.  I came to Cairns a couple days after landing in Sydney and was quickly running out of funds so I landed a job bar-tending a corporate tent at the Cairns Amateurs, the city’s largest horse races of the year. The tent I was assigned to was Dave’s social club’s tent …  We went for drinks a couple of times and started dating shortly after.

Since my visa was expiring, I was going back to the states to decide if I would leave everything I knew and move to Australia for a year, or stay and go on the traditional path. Well, Dave and his friend changed their holiday plans to come to the states at Christmas and Dave came to my Mom’s house for a few days. He bought me a one way ticket to Cairns and was pretty sure that I wasn’t going to come back. I nearly didn’t because of snow storms and getting stuck in elevators, but I made it and haven’t looked back since.

The reception was under large rain trees coated in Christmas lights and paper lanterns.  The food was all buffet and traditional Luau food–we even included the one thing Dave wanted most–a pig! The little guy was cooked in the ground and there was an Imu ceremony to bring it to the table to be served.

Fun fact about the Best Man

Did you notice that the Best Man is Steven Bradbury? Steven is the Australian short track speed skater who won the Olympic Gold in 2002, when everyone else fell over except for him! Do you remember? Unbelievable! Have a look here to relive that incredible race.

Congratulations Dave and Claudette. Thanks so much for sharing your lovely day with us. We wish you many blessings to come and many more holidays that bring your families together!

Drop by Benn’s blog here to see lots more loveliness from Dave and Claudette’s wedding.
