Planning a Send-off?

Categories Reception + Wedding Planning

I felt Mrs. Sprinkle pain when she shared on Weddingbee how she regretted immensely not planning a “send-off” for her spring wedding. And, although her wedding was lovely indeed, if Mrs. Sprinkles had regrets, you might too. Thus, I share her words with you because the “send-off” is one aspect of wedding planning that can be easily overlooked.

“I didn’t plan anything special (confetti! sparklers! MAGICAL DOVES!) for our send off, and then regretted it immensely. Instead, we just kinda left, which was fine at the time, but I really wish I had memories (and photos) of all of our guests gathering around us and showering us with something sparkly and filled with love. I have to admit, I am still trying to get over this one…”

That said. Whether the end of the ceremony or the end of the night… a well-planned “send-off” is like proverbial fireworks allowing for a grand exit and fabulous photographs!

These ribbon wands are fun & colorful. Great shot!

I was just discussing this with a wedding venue manager yesterday. It really is an important element of a wedding day! If it takes place after the ceremony, it sets a festive tone for the reception saying that it is time to PARTY!! If it’s at the end of the evening, it’s just a perfect end to a beautiful day. And, of course, photographers LOVE it because it’s such an iconic wedding image and also we need something to close the wedding album, slideshow, etc. with! Otherwise it’s a story that just ends abruptly. This is the image that says “and they lived happily ever after.” Yes, I believe in the fairytale and I’m unapologetic about it! : )

Oh how I love a sparkler send off! They make for some great pictures! Unfortunately, our venue doesn’t allow sparklers so we will probably DIY some streamers!
