Rectangular Tables Better for Conversation?

Categories Inspiration

Round or rectangle… I’m really warming to the idea that rectangular reception tables just might be better for intimate conversation.  The person across the table is closer to you as is the person next to you… which introduces a different level of intimacy~ one that is cozy and familiar.

I also imagine how a photographer might love to capture the depth and drama gleaned from a rectangular table that’s all dressed up in a stunning table runner decorated with amazingly stylish centerpieces.

What say you… round or rectangular? Why?

Rectangle tables are my favorites – I love the style of tablescapes you can pull off there that simply won’t work on round tables.

That said, my venue only offers round. :-)

I think you’re right, rectangle tables seem a bit more intimate. It sort of depends on your centerpiece though…if you’re going with something large and lavish, round tables might work better. Round are a little more elegant and formal, too. Personally, being an all-caj girl, I’d go for rectangle.

Actually, I prefer round tables when it comes to conversation. I like the LOOK of rectangle ones better though.

When I’ve been at weddings or any other events with long tables, it gets kind of hard to communicate. Especially if several people are having a conversation at once, people have to lean forward or backwards in able to be able to see and hear someone who is talking a few seats down from them.

With round tables, Everyone can see and hear everyone!

Stunning! I love the table setting and of course that rectangle tables. Great centerpieces as well. visit americanbridal.com if you want to see more wedding centerpieces that are exactly as gorgeous as those at the pictures.

Yes, and what about the square table! It combines both! I love a square table. I do have to say a rectangle table needs to be beautiful in order to pull it off. I have seen it be quite “high school cafeteria” feeling too. I love the picture you have chosen, but you only see one table. A room full of them, screams study hall to me.

Wow. Thanks ladies! Great comments and excellent points made. You definitely want conversation but don’t want your venue screaming high school cafeteria or study halls… so really what you need to do is weigh how much room you have to work with, the centerpieces you’re planning on and how many guests you’ll have.
