Color Monday: Nautical Mist

Categories Inspiration + Wedding Stationery

Hello Color Monday!

If you’re in need of a color palette that’s going to hoist your spirits, look no further. Today’s Nautical Mist inspiration is so cheery and bold and a sassy scheme for those wanting to wed on or near the water. Reminiscent of Pantone’s Dazzling Blue for this fall, this custom blue sails in perfect harmony with the classic white, ruby red and the glam gold. A little bit retro and a lot of fun!

Since the wedding invitation is the first real glimpse of the wedding style, we chose Nautical Feelings Layered Invitation design to anchor the palette and introduce the stripes and anchor motif. The end result: fun and vibrant. What do you think?

A Special Galveston Island Engagement Session!

Categories Real Weddings

Although Shane and Samantha have been married for three years, they never got the chance to have an actual engagement session or even a real wedding for that matter! Let’s just say, they’ve been busy. Between Shane’s overseas tours as a U.S. Marine, {plus dealing with medical issues from a severe wound he sustained} moving, and Samantha’s small business, they simply haven’t had time for a proper celebration. Having settled down in Texas last year, they decided that 2013 was the year! They were going to renew their vows with a wedding-style ceremony and reception. And the precursor: engagement photos! Since their wedding is beach-themed, they decided that Galveston Island would be their locale. From The Strand to the seawall, they had a great time reveling in their very own engagement session.

Congratulations Shane and Samantha–we’re so happy for you.

Romantic, stylish, fun–we love it! Thank you Shane and Sam–for sharing your day with us! Thank you for your military service! Thank you for inspiring us with what marriage is all about!

How about you, dear reader… can you imagine the patience needed to wait like Shane and Samantha did?

Chicago Engagement Shoot on Lake Michigan

Categories Real Weddings

Hello gorgeous! Yes, I’m talking to you, engagement session. I love your Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan, and the way Julie and Travis are so artfully silhouetted against the expansive blue sky and water. You’re beautiful and impressive and you know it! And, here something else that’s impressive–how intentional photographer Tuan H. Bui, Photographer was in getting to know Julie and Travis’ style and interests before this stunning shoot.

Tuan said, “During my first phone call with Travis, I tried to get a sense of his relationship with Julie in preparation for the shoot. I asked the obvious questions … dutifully took notes. I also spoke to Julie and learned her history of sailing tall ships which also influenced my choices of location for the shoot. When I was in their Bucktown loft, I took in the minimal, sleek, modern decor, and decided that the photos had to match: clean compositions, simple lines, bold subjects. Travis had said that Julie might be nervous in front of the camera, but she was wonderfully happy and bubbly when talking to Travis, so I decided that most of the shots would involve the couple facing each other, talking or interacting.”

One of their bookshelves is full of Lonely Planets from 10 different countries. On top of that shelf is a plastic float that has “Will you marry me Julie?” on it. The travel books are a legacy of this couple’s love of adventuring to different places.
