One of my favorite sites for men~ is the Art of Manliness. It’s classy and fun and full of old-school and new-school information for the manly man of any age. For instance~ today’s post… How to tie a TIE. You certainly don’t want floppy and unsymmetrical knots on your wedding day so this instruction will help!

So, get your tie on and check out this video tutorial {as well as written} series on: the most popular knot~ Four in-Hand {aka Schoolboy knot} the Windsor knot… the Half Windsor… and the Shelby knot. There’s even a snippet or two on which knot should used based on the fabric of the tie and the formality of the event.
And, there’s LOTS more where that came from~ you can also learn about old-school shaving… that’s better for your face as well as the environment in How to Shave Like Your Grandpa! A Fabulous Read! Enjoy.

What a great shot of Gary Cooper looking all kinds of cool, sporting his pocket square.

For the modern groom wearing a suit or jacket, a pocket square is a hip and classy alternative to the boutonniere.
Pocket squares seem to have a way of accentuating, varying and completing the look of a suit… really quite effortlessly.
Of course, your pocket square should complement the colors in the wedding party.
Check out the awesome blog, The Art of Manliness for all things manly AND to learn the different and correct ways to fold your pocket square: Puff Fold, Straight Fold, and One Corner Fold.
Love this contemporary lavender, silk version too.

The groom’s cake is a southern tradition and as funky superstitious traditions go, single women at the wedding would take a piece of the groom’s cake home, put it under their pillows that night and expect to dream blissfully of the man they will soon marry… kinda cute.
Or, you could just use the tradition of the groom’s cake as an opportunity to honor your groom. Surprise him with a cake that is totally fun and totally about him! Since the groom’s cake should look nothing like the wedding cake, you have complete permission to be in stark contrast and have a blast designing a cake that highlights some fabulous aspect of his personality, hobby, profession, etc. The whole idea behind the groom’s cake is to honor him… here are a few great ideas from brides.com.

Two all beef pattys anyone?

How incredible is this drum set? My husband is a drummer and I know he would just love this!

For the wine connoisseur… Doesn’t it look like you could just pick up a bottle of Pinot Noir?
Impressive. Hopefully, they taste as good as they are works of art!
What style of cake would your husband be impressed with?

I remember just about melting when I saw my husband in his tux on our wedding day. Man, he looked good! I think he’s handsome anyways but there is something incredible that happens when a man dons a fabulously fitting tuxedo or suit! That said…
Regarding Tuxedos or suits:
- Go with your man when shopping or renting his formal wear. He’ll need your help determining that the style and formality of the tuxedo or suit matches your dress and the wedding formality.
- Socks should match the tuxedo.
- Match the Dads’ attire to the style and formality of the wedding. They do not have to match the groomsmen.
Two button notched lapel tuxedo from Claiborne. Very nice!
(The notch is where the collar and lapel meet)

Here’s a four-button notch Pronto Uomo Pinstripe MW Tux…

Another two-button notched lapel from Claiborne, this time in Champagne! Wow!

A Wilke-Rodriguez two-button framed edge notch lapel. Gorgeous!

Here’s a contemporary Joseph & Feiss Gray Cutaway ~ Cutaways are also known as morning suits because they’re traditionally a formal option for daytime. Cutaways are great for just about any body type.

Look amazing on your wedding day in a suit too! And, it’s practical. Just don’t skimp on quality.
Here’s a Hickey Freeman, two-button Herringbone suit from Nordstroms.
