Mini Studio E-Session: Martania and Gregory

Categories Real Weddings + Wedding Stationery

Martania and Gregory are saving the date for their church wedding next April. Martania is an intellectual property paralegal who loves to blog about their upcoming wedding, and Gregory is a head chef and a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan! Our happy couple wanted their engagement photos to signify their style plus the location that gave way to the early stages of their dating career. So, they chose Greensburg, PA’s FineLine Weddings to shoot their mini studio engagement session.

Iconic of their classic style, this sweet and simple mini session captures the love story of two beautiful people–so obviously in love!

For their Save the Dates …

Martania and Gregory were undecided on which design they loved best. So what did they do? They took advantage of MagnetStreet’s Just One® program to decide between the two designs: Photo Collection and We Fell in Love. In the end, they chose Photo Collection Large Save the Date Magnet design! {Perfect!}

Martania said,I choose the “Photo Collection” simply because I liked how it visually tells our love story. And I wanted everyone to see how well our engagement photos captured our love using a collage of our favorite photos.”

“This design fits perfectly with our personalities because it shows us as a fun, lovely couple that appreciates elegance, family values  and traditions. I like to think of our story as the “classic” hometown romance that’s fun, fresh and appealing but with a modern feel – it’s just the way we are!”

We couldn’t agree more Martania and Gregory! Congrats to you both! And thanks for sharing your sweet e-sesh with us.

A weekend of celebration:

“I got the whole weekend. The entire bridal party was at the plantation from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning getting ready, hanging out together and talking about good old times, and getting ready for the wedding.”

First Look:

“I could not convince my groom to do “first look” pictures because he did not want to see me before the ceremony–but we were able to take pictures separately with our bridal party.”

Advice you’re glad you took:

I am glad I took the advice to take pictures before the ceremony. I love that we were able to take pictures with the bridal party before the ceremony. That saved time after the ceremony to get to our guests at the reception.

“Our bouquets were probably my favorite detail of the wedding …
and still are.”

Ceremony music:

“My brother played the acoustic guitar for our ceremony music. He played while the guests were being seated and then played “Somewhere over the rainbow” when the grandparents and parents walked down the aisle, “Makin plans” by Miranda Lambert when the bridesmaids walked down the aisle, and “Cannon in D” when my dad and I walked down the aisle.”

The ceremony was in the front yard underneath a beautiful pergola. The reception was underneath their permanent white tent behind the house that has a brick floor, lights in the floor where the dancing normally is, a crystal chandelier, and white gossamer coming from the corners.”

Advice you wished you’d taken?

“I wish I would have slowed down and taken in the day more. It goes by so fast, like the blink of an eye, that there were many details that I do not remember. We had a large wedding of 200 people so I was not able to talk to everyone, dance to every song I wanted to, take in all the decorations, do our photo booth, or just take in the day. I wish I would have paused, slowed down, and took in everything.

I also wish I had gotten our videographer to stay longer. He taped the ceremony and first dance but left after dinner. I wish I would have paid for him to stay for most of the reception since it did go by so fast.” {Via Milestone Cinema, check out highlights from their wedding video here.}

What advice would you give?

“Pause, slow down, and take everything in. Do not worry about going around and talking to everyone. It’s your day. They will come to you and say hello. Just have a blast being bride and groom on your wedding day and do what you want. Take every breath in because it will fly by.”

Best part of the whole wedding day?

The best part had to be being surrounded by our whole bridal party all day and all of our closest friends and family. It was also amazing to be married by one of our good friends who got ordained online to marry us. It was also wonderful to hear that our wedding was the most beautiful wedding anyone had ever been to and I looked like I stepped off the front page of a magazine ;)

Mandy and Travis personalized the Graphic Bloom wedding invitation suite in their wedding colors.

“It fit perfect with my “southern vintage” themed wedding and I loved how I could customize the colors and font to make it match perfectly!
The stationary let us give some insight into the style and theme of our wedding with the pictures, design, colors, and font style. Our guests knew exactly that this wedding was going to be a casual, country wedding with vintage and southern charm.”

Jamie J Photography

Jamie is not only an amazing photographer but a dear friend that knew exactly what I wanted. She knew that I love my pictures and wanted anything and everything captured on film. She did an amazing job capturing everything that I didn’t have to time to take in during the wedding.

Headcase by KB

My bouquets were fabric flowers made by the amazing Kristin Blum.We did not use a florist and had no real flowers at my wedding. My centerpieces were vintage birdcages that were decorated by silk flowers. All other flowers arrangements were silk flowers as well. My bouquets were fabric flowers made by the amazing Kristin Blum. I came to her asking her to make a flower and veil that would match my champagne colored dress. I then came to her after falling in love with a fabric bouquet I saw on Pinterest. She had never made fabric bouquets but was amazing at making fabric flowers for hair clips and headbands so she took on this challenge. She ending up making amazing fabric/brooch bouquets and is now selling them in addition to her hair accessories. My favorite part is that my bouquet is now on display in my living room of my house and it will never die.

Smokin Joe’s Catering along with their wedding planning company, Southern Brides on a Budget

My caterer was amazing and went above and beyond! Not only was the food amazing and served hot, but they went above and beyond with their setting up and decorating. They met us at the plantation on the Thursday before the wedding and stayed until 11:00pm at night to set up the drink tables, food tables, hang the parasols, and so much more. They brought along vintage suitcases, old window panes to write the menu, mason jars, vintage dresser drawers, and everything dark purple or yellow they could find to decorate the space. Everything they did turned out more beautiful than I could have imagined and they were gems to work with. They even stayed later than 1:00am to make sure everything was cleaned up from the wedding that Saturday night.

Jasmine Plantation

Don and Eileen Smith who own the plantation house are amazing and the sweetest couple to work with. The venue had everything included: tables, chairs, rehearsal dinner space, tent, etc. We were able to stay the entire weekend and they cooked us breakfast each morning. It was amazing being able to stay in this old plantation house all weekend with my bridal party. They house was perfect for my “southern vintage” wedding and the grounds were beautiful.

DJ Barry Martin: Our DJ was an old family friend that knew exactly what we wanted to hear.

Ceremony Officiant

Peyton Martin: Our Pastor is a very good friend who became ordained online to marry us. He is not particularly a church person but was the perfect person to marry us. We were his first wedding. It was perfect because he knew Travis’ dad and my older brother that had passed away. He was able to remember and honor them during the wedding ceremony. He had also been around the entire 7 years my husband and I have been together and even saw our relationship before we started dating. It was perfect that we had an old friend marry us that actually knew us and could speak as to why it was wonderful that we were getting married.

MagnetStreet Weddings

I loved how I could personalize many different designs and see a printed invite before purchasing them. I must have designed 13 save the date magnets and 5 or 6 wedding invitations on MagnetStreet’s website before picking the one I wanted to order. I loved so many of there designs for all their save the dates, invitations, rsvp cards, and thank you cards. Their customer care were also so sweet and helpful. Everything shipped so fast and it was such great quality.

Sneak Peek: DIY Southern Vintage Wedding

Categories Real Weddings

There is so much lovely to Travis and Mandy’s DIY southern vintage wedding, we’re taking two days to unpack the loveliness. Today is a behind the scenes tour–from attire to the DIY décor. Tomorrow … their full wedding feature.

Travis and Mandy were married at the Historic Jasmine Plantation near Richmond, VA. Their wedding colors were mostly dark purple and sunflower but they also used lots of browns, greens and champagne. Mandy wore an exquisite champagne-colored dress with a beaded bodice and ruffled bottom {more on that later!}. Jamie Jansen of Jamie J Photography is the talented photographer behind the beauty and MagnetStreet Weddings had the honor of being their stationer and printing their save the dates, invitation suite and thank you cards.

As you’ll soon see, their casual southern style and vintage vibe is creatively woven throughout their entire wedding. Mandy, an event planner herself, made and decorated almost everything herself. And here she is to walk us through the decor and DIY elements.

First Look …

First Look photo

“My dress was my absolutely favorite! It was an Allure dress that had a sweetheart neckline and A-line bottom. It was not anything I pictured myself getting married in but I fell in love with it. It was actually the very first dress I tried on and after three more bridal appointments at different stores, I had to go back and get that dress. It had a lace top with “craziness” at the bottom. My favorite part was that it was a champagne color. It was by far the darkest dress on the racks but that went perfect with my “southern vintage” wedding theme.

wedding gown and fabric bouquet

I wore cowboy boots for my shoes. They were brown cowboy boots with a purple inlay design to match my wedding colors. All of my bridesmaids wore different purple colored strapless bridesmaids dresses with cowboy boots. My flower girl also wore cowboy boots with a purple tutu and yellow shirt (I knew I could never find a flower girl dress in my champagne color dress so a friend made a tutu for her to wear).

Wedding dress and purple cowboy boots

Vintage and fabric bouquets. The friend who made my veil, hair flower, and flower girl’s tutu, also made the fabric bouquets for myself and my 7 bridesmaids. My bouquet was made of lace, burlap, and purple and champagne fabric flowers. The stem of the bouquet was wrapped in lace with a lace bow and included a locket of a picture of my older brother who died of cancer when he was 5 and I was 4. My bouquet also included vintage brooches and earrings from my mother and my two grandmothers which accounted for my “something old” and “something blue” in that old saying. My bridesmaids also had fabric bouquets but included more yellow and green–but without the brooches.

DIY decor: ceremony bows, ceremony programs, all the signs (chalkboard, wooden, reserved, etc.), centerpieces, bouquets, burlap chair sashes, photo booth.

I made the photo booth hanging from the tree, my mother made all the centerpieces, mason jar flower arrangements at the ceremony site and the reception, the boutonnieres and corsages for the groomsmen and all the family, and other odds and ends like the flower girl basket and the cake cutting knife and server.

The chalkboard signs. The chalkboard signs were spray painted and put together by my mom and I and written by my bridesmaids.

Almost everything you see in the decorations is something that either myself, my mom, my step mom, or my bridesmaids made or put together. We decorated for 3 straight days for this wedding and everything turned out better than I could ever imagine.

Beach Wedding on the East Coast

Categories Real Weddings + Wedding Stationery

Stephanie and Taylor met when they were just 15 years old. And although they went to different colleges, they still managed to see each other just about every weekend. They got engaged last May on the West Coast and were married this June on the East Coast. True to themselves and their traditional style, they chose to marry at the lovely Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, CT. This beautiful coastal park features a 70 ft. tall lighthouse, built in the 1840′s, as well as a restored, historic carousel. Their photos and wedding stationery reflect their simple, clean and uncomplicated wedding style–so lovely. Enjoy.

Did the location have special significance?
The wedding location reminded us of Martha’s Vineyard. We have a family home there in which we love to visit as much as possible. Save the date photos were from a park in Trumbull, CT, our home town, which had a beautiful lake.

What were some highlights from your big day?
The photographer and the DJ are husband and wife and work for the same company. The DJ was amazing and I felt comfortable knowing the photographer was getting everything I wanted–it made me so happy. The weather was beautiful … Having our families under one roof was perfect and meant everything to us both … My dress and shoes fit me perfectly–Jack Rogers for me and the bridesmaids … And finally, the most simple, beautiful dress with buttons down the whole back.

What advice are you glad you took?
Take in every second of the wedding from beginning to end and not to let small things bother you i.e. the curling iron caught on fire … the limo didn’t start … my dress wasn’t clipped right inside … There were a few more things but they are things we can laugh at now! Never sweat the small stuff!
