Ikat patterns–what’s not to love?!
If you don’t already know … Ikat is a technique–a way of tie-dying yarn to make a pattern before the fabric is woven and one of the oldest techniques for beautifying fabrics. No wonder this “trend” is so long-lasting! This gorgeous patterning style is here to stay! And lucky for us–modern processes make it possible to enjoy these gorgeous patterns–on everything from textiles to dinnerware to–wedding stationery!
That said, curating Behind the Design today is Lisa–our graphic designer behind “Bohemian Ikat” our featured Save the Date design. Here she is to share her wedding inspiration from this timeless and unique patterning style.

“Ikat is such a versatile pattern. It has the same zig and zag as classic Chevron, but adds oomph with its jagged edges and syncopated shapes woven throughout. Use it on your reception tables, a clutch carried by your bridesmaids, borders for your signage, and of course on your stationery to add character to your wedding day.
You can choose the level of attention drawn by this pattern. Want to make an emphatic statement? Use bright, bold hues in contrasting colors. Want to keep is subtle? Use the trick employed on this Save the Date design: using complementary colors such as orange and blue, make the primary color a pastel and let the other add punch in its true form.”

What are your thoughts on Ikat? How would you use it in your wedding?

A whirlwind wedding … literally.
As if their lovely Long Island venue setting wasn’t spectacular enough, a hurricane developed on Eric and Danielle’s New York wedding too. Perhaps a photographer’s dream, and a bride’s worst nightmare … Eric and Danielle did not let a mere hurricane threaten the joy, peace and happiness of their big day. And there’s incredible photography to prove it! A beautiful adventure for a beautiful couple. Enjoy …
“We literally got married through a hurricane! We had to switch the entire day up and couldn’t even see driving out to our hall! My husband and I decided during cocktail hour that we were going to make the most of it and most of our photos were in the pouring rain- I even went ankle-high in mud just to “get the shot!” To this day, my dress wears the residue of our wedding–from grass stains to mud!” Danielle

About Zac Thomas
Zac Thomas was amazing! We scouted him online and flew him in all the way from Utah because his work just stunned us! He immediately became one of our best friends and the day would’ve never been the same without him!

Happy May Day!
Today we’re featuring Elyse and Weston’s urban engagement photos. Their sweet session was taken at a studio in downtown Minneapolis and also at the infamous Stone Arch Bridge–an historic railroad bridge that spans the mighty Mississippi River. The Stone Arch Bridge is a special location for Elyse and Weston … because it’s where Weston proposed!
We love city engagement sessions–and how they capture the personality of not only the couple, but the city too. We also love Elyse’s gorgeous smile and the way she lights up when Weston looks at her! Enjoy!

Wedding style: classic, romantic, outdoor garden
