Behind the Design: Vintage Applique

Categories Inspiration + Wedding Stationery

Vintage Appliqué is one of our newer designs and here to explain the inspiration behind the design is none other than the designer herself … Jen.

Jen, Graphic Designer at MagnetStreet

The inspiration behind this design was the timeless pattern of lace. Such a romantic fabric, lace never loses its dreamy and enchanting demeanor and I wanted to create an invite that gave off that same classic feeling. Paired with a soft cursive script and a muted pink color, I wanted this invite to stand the test of time and be perfect for any season or wedding theme.

The timeless fabric of lace has indeed stood the test of time–its current resurgence is proof of that.

Truly gorgeous Jen. I love how the design flourish is effortlessly carried from one stationery item to the next–you had me at the Envelope Liner. This design would be perfectly lovely for both a modern or a vintage-styled wedding.

Art Nouveau Wedding Trend

Categories Inspiration + Wedding Stationery

Art Nouveau or “New Art” was a brand-new and distinctive style of art that was most popular in Europe but also spread across North America too. Emerging around the turn of the 19th century and during the industrial revolution {1890-1914′ish}, Art Nouveau was a movement to create a new form of art–something wholly distinctive.

I love the spirit behind this movement! I can imagine that the artists of this day were not exactly inspired by the onslaught of mass automation. So, from advertising to architecture and interior design to paintings, their attempt to visually create something new and wholly artistic, resulted in decorative and pretty patterns, curvy lines, vines, and asymmetrical shapes. Gorgeous!

Love the Art Nouveau style? Here are two ways you can lend a vintage vibe to your modern wedding stationery.

Typography– featured below is the Inspired Devotion design on a square wedding invitation. Curvaceous typography speak to the style but overall, the feel is modern and sleek.

Peacocks are hugely popular–and iconic of the Art Nouveau style. Retro & artistic, Vintage Peacock design is featured here on a rectangle wedding invitation. Love feathers? What a fantastic complement to your look!

Color Monday- Surprise!

Categories Inspiration + Wedding Stationery

It’s Color Monday–and our color expert Lindsay, shares with us a recent experience that reminded her that as an “expert” she delights in and looks forward to the surprises that come from our creative brides and how they are personalizing  their wedding stationery.  It’s a great story–read on!

“As a designer, I understand how far color can change the look of a design. But even I can be surprised sometimes… I created this Save the Date Magnet “Picturesque Ledger” to be bright and happy with a scrapbook look and feel.

Save the Date Magnet

And then one of our wonderful brides thrilled me with her redesign–it was the cutest version of ANY of my designs that I have ever seen. Just by changing the colors, she totally transformed the look and feel, and it instantly became her Save the Date–{which by the way, is exactly what we hope for with each of our designs.}

This is how our bride changed the colors:

Can you believe the dramatic difference of her color changes? The design went from being a cute and colorful Save the Date, into a soft and sophisticated Save the Date! Even her black and white  photos added to the gentle and vintage feel. I was very impressed!

I am so humbled and honored that our bride was able to create such a sweet and romantic version! In fact, I love her version so much that you shouldn’t be surprised if the original suddenly changes {wink}.

I am definitely impressed by our brides and their creativity. I can’t wait to see what the next bride does to dramatically alter a design. So please, knock my socks off when you redesign YOUR Save the Date Magnet.

As you can see, at MagnetStreet Weddings, you don’t have to shop solely for the color you want – you can get ANY DESIGN in ANY COLOR. In other words, you can get any design in any color in ANY MOOD you want–just like our bride did!

What are your thoughts on how our bride changed the design? How would you have changed it?

{psst – should we change the design to be the soft version or keep the bright colors?} We’re listening …
