Thank a Vet!
November 11, 2008 | Categories InspirationToday is Veterans Day and the day we honor our brave men and women of our armed forces who have and are serving and sacrificing more than we can possible know! We enjoy our freedoms because of them!
THANK YOU!
Here are the words of President Wilson in 1919 when he proclaimed November 11 as the first remembrance of Veterans Day originally called Armistice Day (and meant~ temporary ceasefire).
“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”
Want to volunteer or to get to know a vet? Inquire at the VA Medical Center in your area. Check out Salute to Our Troops site too which has an open group Facebook link.
Know someone in the service? Tell us which branch in the comments!
