My boyfriend and I started out as an "office romance". It was great, I looked forward to waking up and going to work every single day! We kept it professional but also kept it fun, sneaking in a quick kiss when no one was around, that sort of thing. We are still together but he has changed jobs which makes me sort of sad because I don't get to see him as much!

Jen and Sarah... thanks for your comments! I read recently that 4 out of 10 couples meet at "the office." Obviously, it can work~ but only if it stays professional and in the ways you've described.

I met my husband at work. We started dating when we worked down the hall from each other, but within 6 months circumstances changed and we ended up in the same office 5 feet apart -- for more than 2 years!

Our coworkers and boss knew we were dating, but it was an unspoken thing. We absolutely did not talk about it in the office. We were utterly professional -- that means no "inside jokes", no special treatment and of course NO PDA WHATSOEVER.

It worked for us for exactly that reason -- we were 100% committed to keeping it professional while we were at work.

It actually surprises me how well it worked for us, and I was VERY hesitant about moving into the same office early in our relatioship. But he's now moved to a different job at the same (very large) company and it's actually kind of sad that I don't get to see him at work on a daily basis like I used to.

I love that you wrote about The Office - one of the best shows on TV and I will definitely be watching it tonight!

I agree, I think the only way to have an office romance that doesn't make people feel uncomfortable is if it remains professional at all times.
