When do you send out wedding invitations?

Wedding invitations are traditionally sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. This gives your guests plenty of time to make hotel arrangements or let you know they won't be able to make it.

The exception being if you have a destination wedding or if friends or family are traveling from out of town. In this case, you should send out your invites around three months ahead of time so guests can book airfare, hotels, and make other arrangements to ensure they can celebrate with you. Use this timeline to learn when to order and mail wedding invitations.

What should a wedding invitation say?

In general, your wedding invites should include the following details:

  • Who's hosting
  • A request to attend the wedding
  • The names of the bride and groom
  • The date and time
  • The location (including the venue, city, and state)
  • Reception information
  • Dress code
  • A separate RSVP card for guests to send back to you

How much should you spend on wedding invitations?

Your wedding invitation budget is entirely personal and depends on several different factors, including stationery material, details, and designs, which can all factor into the final price. At MagnetStreet, you can find a wide variety of wedding invitations that suit your unique style and personal tastes, everything from art deco to rustic at prices that fit your budget. Use our wedding budget calculator to organize your budget.

When should the RSVP deadline be for a wedding?

Your wedding RSVP deadline should generally be about 4-6 weeks before the event. You'll want to check with your wedding caterer and/or venue as well for their requirements on when they need the final head count. Give yourself about a week of lead time between your printed RSVP date on the invitation and the date when you give the venue your final guest count. This allows you to tie up any loose ends and track down anyone that may not have responded.
